“Internet of Things” courses at tertiary institutions to develop talents in intelligent systems design

17 Jun 2015

SMU’s School of Information Systems (SIS) will launch an “Internet of Things (IoT) – Technology and Application” module in August. SIS Associate Professor (Practice) Tan Hwee Pink said that IoT would be a major driving force in realising Singapore’s aspirations to become a Smart Nation, and talents with such knowledge and skills will be increasingly valued. Prof Tan added that the course is targeted at students with basic coding knowledge and aims to train students to apply their knowledge of IoT in order to design cost-efficient intelligent systems which meet market demands. Third year information systems and network security undergraduate Zheng Kai Wen, who intends to read the course, said he hopes to understand how IoT works so as to design anti-hacking measures in his desired career as a network security analyst.
