Admissions, Fees & Scholarships

MAIN ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The minimum entry requirement for admission into the Master programme is a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline, preferably in computer science, information systems, IT, engineering, science, statistics, or applied math. Candidates should be keen to pursue research at the intersection of IT and business.

REFEREES REPORTS

At least two academic referees' reports are required for each application.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - International Test

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Applicants whose medium of instruction for their Bachelor degree is not in English are required to submit TOEFL (international test) scores.

SMU's TOEFL institution code is 9014. Test taken within 2 years will be accepted.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

Students may choose to substitute TOEFL scores with IELTS scores. For applicants whose medium of instruction at the Bachelor's/Master's level was not English. The tests must be taken within 2 years before the proposed date of admission.

GRE (Graduate Record Examinations)

Except for special approval granted by SMU, all applicants are required to take GRE or GMAT. GRE/GMAT (may be waived for SMU, NTU and NUS graduates).

SMU's GRE institution code is 2861. Test results obtained within 5 years will be accepted.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

Students may choose to substitute the GRE scores with GMAT scores. GRE/GMAT (may be waived for SMU, NTU and NUS graduates). However, applicants whose Bachelor degree is not in one of the listed disciplines may still be requested to submit GRE Computer Science score even with GMAT submission.

The GMAT code for this programme is F8D-Z4-04. Test taken within 5 years will be accepted.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

Merit Award

Merit Award of up to SGD $5,000 may be granted to applicants on competitive basis upon admission offer. Recipients are required to maintain good academic standing throughout the course of study. The merit award will be used to offset the tuition fees in equal instalments.

Capstone Project Scholarship

All MAIS students who are working on industry-sponsored capstone projects are eligible to apply for Capstone Project Scholarship of up to SG$5,000 sponsored by our industry sponsors (e.g. DHL, Standard Chartered Bank).

Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing & Engineering Corp Lab (UNiCEN) Scholarship Programme

Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing & Engineering Corp Lab offers Master Scholarship to motivate outstanding full-time students in the MAIS Programme to academic excellence and to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to deliver innovative and sustainable projects.

National Cybersecurity Postgraduate Scholarship

The National Cybersecurity Postgraduate Scholarship (NCPS) is offered jointly by the National Research Foundation (NRF), Prime Minister's Office, Singapore and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) under the National Cybersecurity R&D Programme. It is a prestigious scholarship for graduates and working professionals who are keen to contribute and commit to the protection of Singapore's cyberspace.

Successful applicants may pursue the PhD in Information Systems or Master of Applied Information Systems programme at SMU.
