Does the PhD in IS programme accept part time student?

Currently, we are only accepting Singapore Citizens and Permanenet Residents for part-time study. Foreign students may consider full-time study.
 

How long does it take to complete the PhD in IS programme?

The minimum candidature period is 3 years and maximum period is 5 years.
 

I have missed the application deadline by just a couple of days; can I still submit my application for this intake?

If you have missed the application deadline, please submit your online application for the next intake. As the application period is fixed, we are not able to extend the application deadline.
 

If I submit my online applications and the required documents by the online website, do I still need to mail the documents to your office?

You can only upload your personal and research statement in the online application system.

Alternatively, you may mail all supporting documents in a less than 12 megabytes, single zip file format to sis_phd@smu.edu.sg. Only clear scanned copy of your files will be accepted. Please name the files appropriately.
 

 Do I need to have working experience for the PhD in IS programme?

Working experience is not a requirement for admission into the PhD in Information Systems programme.
 

Do I need to complete my bachelor degree to apply for the PhD in IS programme?

You may apply for the PhD in Information Systems programme if you are in your final term and year of your undergraduate study. You will be required to submit a copy of your transcript which should reflects all the results except the last term results. Upon completion of your undergraduate study, please provide us with a copy of your final transcript and degree certificate.
 

Is there scholarship for this programme?

The University awards scholarships and research/teaching assistantships to full-time PhD students on a competitive basis. These awards provide waiver of the registration fee, subsidized tuition, as well as monthly living stipends. What is the minimum GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS score required for this programme?

The programme does not set a minimum cut-off score for GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS. The PhD review committee evaluates applicants based on the overall package that the applicant had submitted.
 

Can I submit my GRE/GMAT/TOEFL score after the application deadline?

All the required supporting documents should be submitted before the online application deadline.
 

I am a foreign student from an English speaking country; do I still need to submit GRE and GMAT?

All applicants must support their applications with GRE/GMAT test results except for NUS/NTU/SMU graduates.
 

May I know what is SMU GRE institution code and Department code?

SMU’S TOEFL institution code is 9014 & GRE institution code is 2861.
For Department code, you may select as computer science.
 

What is the programme’s GMAT code?

This programme’s GMAT code is F8D-Z4-04
 

If my referees send in their completed form via their official email, does this mean they don't have to mail the forms as documents?

Yes if your referees had emailed us the completed form via their official email, hardcopy of the form is not required.
 

Will my referees receive a reference link after I submitted the online application?

Your referees will not receive any email notification to fill up the referee forms. You will need to request from your referee personally.  The form is available for download here: http://sis.smu.edu.sg/programmes/PhD/online-application#refereeForm.
 

Will the programme accept if my referee do not use the referee form provided, but wrote the recommendations in a letter format?

If the referee is able to provide his recommendation for your application for PhD level programme, and send the letter directly to us via his/her official mailbox, it is acceptable. There is no template for letter format recommendations.
