To develop researchers/educators who address deep technology challenges in real information systems that impact business processes or management, or who develop tools and methodologies to translate business goals to technology solutions. Our PhD graduates will be capable of collaborating with faculty members from different research areas, designing technology solutions for real-world problems and applications, while still producing top-rate academic publications.

LIVING ANALYTICS RESEARCH CENTER STUDY & RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The Living Analytics Research Center (LARC) is a collaboration between our University and the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Our PhD Students enjoy the opportunity to conduct their dissertation research at LARC, working on exciting, real problems and collaborating with leading researchers. The center also sponsors selected students for a 10-month training residency at CMU, during which they will work directly with CMU faculty and researchers.
PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES WITH LIVELABS
LiveLabs is a city-scale research test-bed with progressive technologies for companies to run LARGE-SCALE consumer behavioral trials and experiment with novel mobile services on REAL people in REAL environments. Here, PhD students get to innovate in the areas of mobile computing, smartphone-based rich context sensing and real-time behavioral analytics capabilities via collaborative research with multinational technology giants. Students also participate in the deployment of globally unique lifestyle-centric research and development test-beds at multiple locations, including SMU’s downtown campus, major shopping malls, Sentosa island and Singapore Changi International Airport.

FUJITSU-SMU URBAN COMPUTING & ENGINEERING (UNiCEN) CORP. LAB STUDY & RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
The Fujitsu-SMU Urban Computing & Engineering Corp Lab is funded by National Research Foundation and Fujitsu Ltd, and is part of the Centre of Excellence collaboration between A*STAR, Fujitsu and SMU.
At the lab, students will be involved in our lab’s exciting industry-relevant R&Ds on combining human behavior and management approaches with computational capability to create intelligent systems for urban dynamics and decisions. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with targeted industry players to design and implement working prototypes.
SECURE MOBILE CENTRE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF), the Secure Mobile Centre (SMC) studies technologies and solutions to secure different layers of mobile computing systems (ranging from mobile platforms, mobile applications, to mobile Internet services) via implementation of a holistic and end-to-end approach. At SMC, PhD students get opportunities to not only create state-of-the-art mobile computing security technologies, but also evaluate the scalability and usability of these technologies through collaborations with public and private sectors to conduct experiments in real world settings.
